Position:   Staff RN, Spinal Cord Injury Unit
“I am a staff nurse and occasionally an evening shift charge nurse. I am a member of the Skin Risk Management Team at the V.A. Along with my colleague Rebecca Neri, we measure wounds, photograph, document, and download the pictures into the electronic charting system at the VA on our 20 bed spinal cord injury unit."

SETX Chapter ARN Member Since:  January, 2007
SETX Chapter Involvement: Community Action Committee – 2007
  Newsletter Committee – 2007
“I attend meetings, (perfect attendance), and encourage nurse participation on my unit.”

Why did you decide to join SETX Chapter ARN?
“I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to meet new nurses, network, and become more successfully involved at the local level. Reviewing information as well as learning new material is vital to a rehabilitation career.”

Community Involvement:
“While I have not checked into the program yet, I am interested in the SIRE program which was presented at the May meeting.

Exceptional Accomplishment:
“Passing the CRRN certification exam last December was a major highlight in my career.”

Hobbies, Special Interests:
- “I am a horse owner (3) and love riding and taking care of them.”
- Photography
- Spending time with my teen-aged granddaughter and my soon to be one-year-old grandson.
- “I also enjoy Theatre Under the Stars productions, attending the ballet, visiting museums, and exploring new towns, cities, and countryside.
Previous Experience:

“I have been on the SCI unit for 10.5 years.”

What does Rehabilitation Nursing means to me:
“It is very fulfilling knowing that a patient has been well taken care of and his/her family has received the necessary tools and information to take home with them to continue in their care. There is great satisfaction in being a member of the SCI team at the VA. I enjoy mentoring new employees on my unit. Passing the CRRN certification exam last December was a major highlight in my career.”

And on a final note….
“Nursing has been a very rewarding and exciting career and I encourage others to join in this field when the opportunity arises.”
