Previous
Experience: |
| “After graduating from
nursing school in 1990, I worked as a Cardiac ICU and PACU nurse. I
loved my job, but I always wondered what happened to those patients
that left the acute care setting. My family and I moved to Houston
in 1995 and I decided this was my opportunity to see what happened
to those patients after the acute care setting, so I saw an
advertisement in the paper for rehabilitation nurses at TIRR. I
applied. Enough said… I LOVE what I do and I am very glad I chose
this field." |

What does Rehabilitation Nursing mean to you? |
Preparing Individuals for
the Challenge of Recovery “Rehabilitation nursing to me means
sharing one’s knowledge with another being (patients) and knowing
that the patients are well equipped to take on the challenges of
recovery because I have adequately taught them the tools they need
for survival. That in itself is rewarding… It’s like a mama bird
sending their young chick out into the world. The mama bird knows
that she has taught that young chick everything she knows and she
feels comfortable with that because the young chick has the skills
it needs in order to survive in the world when they leave mama’s
nest.” |
