SETX Chapter ARN Involvement:
“I have been on various committees such as Rehabilitation Nurse of the Year (chairperson) and Rehabilitation Nursing Review Workshop. My hospital was one of the sponsors for the Review Workshop, and I initiated hosting for a monthly SETX meeting at current hospital.”

Why did you decide to join SETX Chapter ARN?
“I was able to see first hand the commitment of the members of this chapter extended through patient care while working with them at TIRR and I wanted to be a part of that on every level.”

National ARN Involvement:
“I have attended national conferences and provided assistance and support to peers presenting posters at several conferences.”

“I was the recipient of a Chapter scholarship award and attended the National conference from the proceeds.”

- First aide mother for Girl Scout Troop for 8 years in Pearland
- Multiple skills fairs sponsored by my hospital annually.

Exceptional Accomplishment:

Hobbies, Special Interests:
“My hobbies include watching home decorating shows, and collecting family recipes and cookbooks. I’m an avid movie buff, especially psychological thrillers where I try to predict the ending of the mystery.”
Previous Experience:

“I have been involved with ARN for many years during my professional career working at Memorial Hermann/TIRR and continuing to my present position. My career in management was rich in experiences from other areas and locations within the city, however, in rehabilitation, and ARN, I have worked in the capacity of a manager then a director of the comprehensive rehabilitation, spinal cord injury and brain injury program for pediatric to elderly adults. My scope of practice included clinical, education as an adjunct faculty for TWU first year nursing students who received fundamentals of nursing training in a rehabilitation hospital, quality improvement coordinator for nursing as the survey readiness coordinator and currently as the Chief Nursing Officer at Clear Lake Rehabilitation Hospital.”

What does Rehabilitation Nursing means to me:
“Rehabilitation nursing is all inclusive of what I want my nursing practice to reflect. Rehabilitation nursing gives us an opportunity to learn, practice and grow in confidence utilizing skills that have been taught, refreshed and sometimes developed by other committed colleagues. What I like about rehabilitation nursing is the extension of a patient’s and/or their families’ ability to know more and do more regarding their healthcare and I’m a part of making that happen.”
