Martha Louise Musielak, MSN, RN, CRRN, APN

NEW MEMBER SOUTHEAST TEXAS CHAPTER ARN 2003

Welcome!

Current Employment:          Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Position:                                  Coordinator of the Restorative Nursing Program for the

                                                   Transitional Care Units

                                                   Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Outpatient Clinic

 

Marti works with veterans to restore or improve their functional abilities. She also serves

as a member of the wound care team, falls prevention team, and clinical standards

committee.

SETX Chapter Involvement:      Membership Committee 2004

Why did you decide to join SETX Chapter ARN?

 

 

Marti states, “I wrote a policy for restorative nursing and in the policy it states that the

Coordinator will be certified as a rehabilitation nurse.  I joined the Chapter to learn more

about the different types of rehabilitation and to interact with nurses in these fields.

 

Awards Received:      “On The Spot” Award for the development of the Restorative

                                         Nursing Program.

 

                                         “On The Spot” Award for participation and contribution to the

                                         Clinical Practice Committee.

   

Community Involvement:            TAPN Advocate for the State of Texas – currently works

                                                            with 3 participants to keep them active in the nursing

                                                            profession.

 

Hobbies, Special Interests:         Golf, Bowling, Travel 

 

Previous Experience:

           

Marti has 25 years of nursing experience, most years spent in critical care and nursing

management.

 

She also has 2 years experience working with rehabilitation patients in a private hospital

as a nurse practitioner.

 

 

What Rehabilitation Nursing Means to Me:       Always Give Hope, Not False Hope

 

Marti writes, “ Rehabilitation nursing means working with individuals to give them the

opportunity to improve their functional ability to the maximum.  The most rewarding is

watching the improvement patients make over a short period of time.  Always give hope,

not false hope.

 

On a personal note…

Marti writes, “I am married, my 92 year old mother-in-law lives with my husband and

myself.
