SE TEXAS Chapter ARN Silent Auction

What is the Silent Auction?
The annual Silent Auction is a fun way for Chapter members and guests to contribute to community agencies for people with disabilities. Members, sponsors, and community retail agencies donate items for the silent action. Attendees at the November Holiday Gala and Awards Banquet have fun bidding on these items via written bids on a bid sheet. Watch out for the bidding wars!!!

It is a great way to get some early Christmas shopping done, or to pamper yourself!

Proceeds are donated to community agencies for people with disabilities.

When is the Silent Auction held?
The auction takes place during the November Holiday Gala and Awards Banquet. Planning starts in July.
How long has SE Texas had a Silent Auction?
The annual Silent Auctions began in 2005. Prior to that time, the Chapter raised monies or donations for community agencies by passing a hat.

Which Agencies were benefited in 2007?
Chapter members voted to donate proceeds of the 2007 Silent Auction to two community agencies for persons with disabilities:

- “Be an Angel Fund” for barrier free playgrounds
- SIRE (Self-Improvement through Riding Exercises)

SIRE is a non-profit therapeutic horseback riding program which uses the spirit and movement of the horse to benefit people with disabilities. SIRE has been active in the Houston area for the past 24 years and currently serves over 190 clients per week at sites in Hockley, Spring and Ft. Bend county. Through the use of therapeutic horseback riding hippotherapy, vaulting, and carriage driving, benefits to the clients can include improved gross and fine motor skills, improved balance and posture and the building of self esteem.

How much was raised in 2007?

Thanks to the generosity of contributors and bidders alike, an unprecedented

$1100.50

was raised in 2007!!!!!!!! Way to go!

What other agencies have we contributed to?
In 2004 & 2005 we contributed to two worthy causes: T.H. Rogers School and Camp Extreme. T.H. Rodgers is an HISD school that educates many children with disabilities, and Camp Xtreme is a summer camp devoted to children who use wheelchairs. In 2006, the Chapter contributed to the “Be an Angel Fund” for playground equipment for children with disabilities and Camp Xtreme.

What kinds of items are donated?
Let your imagination be your guide! We are blessed with members of many talents and contacts. We have had themed baskets, gift certificates for massages or manicures/pedicures, hand-made jewelry box, a wine basket and hotel stay, home-made Christmas candy, Christmas items, antique collectable dolls, and much, much more. Just have fun coming up with ideas!!!!

2007 was an exciting Silent Auction!!! Were you one of the lucky ones to take home a treasure, or did you miss out on all the fun and excitement???

Plan now to attend the 2008 Gala and Silent Auction!!!
